Northampton Town Under 18s coach Shane Goddard was delighted his side’s 9-2 win away to Exeter City in the EFL Youth Alliance Merit League Two on Saturday.
The young Cobblers earned their third consecutive victory in their penultimate fixture of the season.
Goddard said: “It was a really positive away performance.
“The boys deserve nothing less due to their application and quality.
“Credit to Exeter because they played some nice stuff, but they also played into our strengths at times.
“We were ruthless in the transitional phase and dominated periods with and without the ball.
“We recognised when to play forwards and showed the desire to work between both boxes.
“We were hard to play against as well as clinical.”
The youth team host Milton Keynes Dons on the final day of the campaign next week.
Goddard added: “We’ll be looking to finish the season strongly.
“We’ve come up against them numerous times this season, so we know what challenges they pose.
“We’re looking forward to the game and hoping to end the season in a positive fashion.”
