REID RETURNS TO TOWN

27 September 2013

Defender signs contract until late January

Northampton Town have re-signed former defender Paul Reid on a contract until late January.

The 31 year old Reid had a spell with the Cobblers in 2003/04 before moving on to Barnsley, spending four years at Oakwell, playing more than 120 times for the Reds.

Colchester United was his next stop, with 65 appearances in two and a half years before he joined Scunthorpe United and in three and a half years with the Iron, he played 77 times.

Reid, who was Scunthorpe captain before leaving Glanford Park in the summer, is 6ft 2in tall and has made more than 350 career appearances.

“Paul will add leadership qualities, an aggression and some depth to the back line,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“He was fantastic for me at Colchester and I’m convinced that had he stayed fit we would have got promoted instead of finishing 7th.

“He’s in very good shape and he’s fit to go straight into the squad for Saturday."

He has been allocated squad number 18 and is available for Saturday's visit from Morecambe. Buy your match tickets here
