With the presentation of the League 2 trophy to come at full-time, the Cobblers took on Luton Town at a packed out Sixfields in their final home match of the season.

Luke Prosser replaced the injured Rod McDonald at centre-half while Josh Lelan continued in the absence of right-back Brendan Moloney. Youth teamer Shaun McWilliams was named on the bench.

The atmosphere was electric and the Cobblers were at it right from the word go, taking the lead on 4 minutes when Zander Diamond powered home Danny Rose’s corner.

Luton were forced into making a change when Danny Green was forced off with a serious looking leg injury, Josh McQuoid coming on in his place.

Joe Pigott headed over from six-yards before John Marquis doubled the Cobblers lead, Marquis adding the finishing touches to a fine free flowing move involving John-Joe O’Toole and Ricky Holmes.

A smart save from Elliot Justham denied David Buchanan his first goal of the season and Sam Hoskins struck the post in first half stoppage time as the Cobblers continued to press forward.

The post denied Cameron McGeehan in a rare opening for Luton before James Collins and Lawson D’Ath came on for Nicky Adams and John Marquis in a double change for the Cobblers.

Justham saved from Hoskins while Collins saw a shot deflected behind.

As the game entered the final 15 minutes the atmosphere inside the ground cranked up another notch as the anticipation really started to build ahead of the full-time whistle and the trophy presentation.

Jason Taylor came on in the final change for the Cobblers, replacing Sam Hoskins.

The game finished 2-0 and as the Champions recorded yet another victory, the party started at Sixfields.
