Northampton Town’s starting eleven was unchanged for the trip to Notts County, Josh Lelan and Chris Hackett coming onto the bench in place of Darnell Furlong and Sam Hoskins, loanee Furlong having returned to his parent club QPR.

Marc Richards headed just wide on 19 minutes following a great run from Nicky Adams before at the other end Graham Burke fired over for County.

The Cobblers took the lead on the half hour, Rod McDonald looping a powerful header over Roy Carroll after getting on the end of an Adams cross.

The angle of post and bar denied Genaro Snijders with Adam Smith beaten as County, out of nothing, went close to an equaliser just before half-time.

Notts County equalised on 52 minutes, Jon Stead on the end of a long ball forward to spear a shot past Adam Smith.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin then came on for Lawson D’Ath in the Cobblers first change.

Brendan Moloney put the Cobblers back in front as the game entered the final 15 minutes, the right-back scoring with a terrific low strike from 20-yards.

Jason Taylor replaced Marc Richards and Ryan Watson came on for Nicky Adams in the final few minutes, Chris Wilder’s side seeing the game out to maintain their position in the top three.
