Lawson D’Ath, Daniel Alfie and Gregor Robertson all came into the Cobblers side for the Boxing Day clash against Bury at Sixfields.

After a positive start the Cobblers had the lead on 6 minutes, Ivan Toney setting up Marc Richards to score his 11th goal of the season. It was a good finish from Richards with Stewart Murdoch also playing a part in the build-up.

Andrew Tutte had a shot deflected onto the roof of the net for Bury before Matt Duke came to the Cobblers rescue to save at the feet of former Sixfields loanee Hallam Hope. Danny Mayor then raced clear before putting his shot wide with Hope better placed in front of goal.

Bury were back on terms just after the half hour, Andrew Tutte with a strike from 25-yards that Duke got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.

Tom Soares then headed the Shakers in front from a corner on 45 minutes as the away side lead at the break.

Chris Hackett replaced Daniel Alfei for the second half, which began with Murdoch having a shot deflected wide before Duke made a good stop to deny Hope.

Bury doubled their lead on 57 minutes, Danny Mayor with the angled finish from Ryan Lowe’s pass.

There was a double sending off on 63 minutes, Ivan Toney and Hayden White both shown red cards following an off the ball and off the pitch incident. Kaid Mohamed and the re-called John-Joe O’Toole then both joined the action at the expense of D’Ath and Murdoch.

The Cobblers were back in it on 77 minutes, Chris Hackett’s in-swinging corner going straight in.

Richards and Carter both shot wide from distance before 4 minutes of stoppage time were signalled. Gregor Robertson headed just past the post in injury time but it was Bury who were to claim the three points on Boxing Day.
