Transfer deadline day signings Ryan Cresswell and Ryan Watson both made their debuts for Northampton Town in the trip to Dagenham. Darren Carter returned on the bench having recovered from a hamstring injury. Zander Diamond captained the side in the absence of Lee Collins (hamstring).

The Cobblers started brightly in East London with Marc Richards heading wide from a deflected Chris Hackett cross.

Richards was soon on target however, opening the scoring on 8 minutes. Kaid Mohamed provided the pull back for Richards to convert following a great ball from Ivan Toney.

Liam O’Brien kept out a fizzer of a shot from Hackett on 18 minutes before pulling off another great save to keep out a bullet header from Richards.

A second goal felt like it was coming and it was Marc Richards who made it 2-0 with his second of the game midway through the first half, Richards heading in from a Joel Byrom corner.

Richards nearly completed his hat-trick on 44 minutes and but for Brian Saah’s block on the goal line the Cobblers would have extended their lead.

Matt Duke tipped over a shot from Luke Howell at the start of the second half before the ever-green Jamie Cureton found the side netting as the home side looked for an opening.

John-Joe O’Toole came on for Ivan Toney in the Cobblers first change. Lawson D’Ath then replaced Chris Hackett for the final 12 minutes.

Daggers substitute Bradley Goldberg went close with a curled shot on 84 minutes before D’Ath nearly made it 3 for Town, his deflected effort going just wide.

David Moyo came on for Marc Richards late on as the Cobblers closed out their first away victory of the new season, thanks to the aforementioned Richards brace in the first half.
