Emile Sinclair, Chris Hackett and Brennan Dickenson all came into the Cobblers side for the long trip to Exeter, replacing Alan Connell, Ian Morris and Ricky Ravenhill (suspended). Sam Parkin, who had a season-long loan at Sixfields from Chelsea back in the early 2000s, started up front for the Grecians with former Town midfielder Arron Davies among the substitutes.

The first chance of the night fell to Exeter on 8 minutes, David Wheeler firing a shot into the side netting.

Sinclair had a sight of goal on 28 minutes but the striker couldn't keep his shot down after being played in by John Marquis. With the Cobblers enjoying a spell of pressure, Dickenson then saw a shot deflect comfortably into the arms of Artur Krysiak.

Chris Wilder made a double change early in the second half with Alan Connell and Ian Morris coming on for John Marquis and Brennan Dickenson.

A matter of minutes later Morris put the Cobblers in front, the midfielder with a cool finish following an excellent cross from Chris Hackett.

Krysiak saved a shot from skipper for the night Darren Carter on 70 minutes following a quick Cobblers counter attack.

The final 20 minutes passed with Exeter failing to really test Matt Duke and the Cobblers, who looked comfortable on their lead for the most part, claimed another vital victory.
