Having joined the club on a permanent basis Clarke Carlisle came back into the side while Luke Guttridge replaced Lewis Hornby in midfield. Lewis Wilson, back from his successful loan spell at Kettering Town, was named on the bench.

Jake Robinson put the Cobblers in front on 7 minutes, heading in a superbly  delivered cross from Chris Hackett at the far post after the winger had been played in by Clive Platt.

Hackett fired a 30-yard free-kick just over the bar while Adebayo Akinfenwa went close with a header following a Ben Tozer long throw.

The Cobblers doubled their lead on 41 minutes when from another Tozer long throw, won by Platt, the ball was punched out by the keeper to  Jake Robinson and his shot from the edge of the area took a deflection before finding the back of the Fleetwood net.

Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander made a double change at half-time with Gareth Evans and Anthony Barry on for Jamie McGuire and Damien Johnson.

Clive Platt made it 3-0 on 53 minutes, smashing the ball home after Scott Davies could only parry a header from Akinfenwa who had met a Hackett cross.

Lewis Hornby replaced Luke Guttridge on 73 minutes as boss Aidy Boothroyd made his first change. Louis Moult then replaced goalscorer Platt, who left the field to a rapturous round of applause from the Cobblers faithful.

The Cobblers third and final substitution came on 83 minutes with Jake Robinson making way for Ishmel Demontagnac.

Jamie Allen pulled a goal back for Fleetwood In stoppage time but the Cobblers had done enough to make it six wins from their last seven games at Sixfields.
