Aidy Boothroyd made four changes for the trip to Dagenham, one of which was enforced due to Danny East serving a one-match suspension following his sending off at Fleetwood.

The fit again John Johnson returned at right-back with Adebayo Akinfenwa, having fully recovered from illness, replacing Clive Platt in attack. Luke Guttridge came back into the side while Ishmel Demontagnac made his first league start for the club.

The Cobblers were forced into making an early change with Ben Tozer coming on for Ben Harding after the midfielder was forced off with an injury.

Dagenham's first real chance of the night came on 18 minutes, Luke Wilkinson heading wide from a corner. A half-volley from Brian Woodall landed on the roof of the Cobblers net as the first-half reached the midway point.

Dwight Gayle headed straight at Lee Nicholls while for the Cobblers Akinfenwa flashed a header just wide of the far post. Demontagnac went on a surging run on 38 minutes but the pacy winger couldn't find the finish to match his run.

Akinfenwa then spurned a good chance to give the Cobblers the lead but after doing so well to create the opportunity for himself he rolled his shot wide of the target.

The Cobblers took the lead on 50 minutes, Adebayo Akinfenwa rising highest to head home from a Chris Hackett corner.

Akinfenwa went close to doubling the lead on 68 minutes but after being set up by Luke Guttridge he couldn't quite direct his header on target.

Lee Nicholls did well to palm over a shot from Josh Scott as the Daggers looked to up the ante. Clive Platt came on for Akinfenwa in the Cobblers second change.

Henoc Mukendi replaced Demontagnac as the game entered the closing stages.

Dagenham forced a corner in stoppage time but there was to be no late drama as the Cobblers picked up their first away win of the season.
