The Cobblers were without Adebayo Akinfenwa through illness and the injured John Johnson and Anthony Charles for the long trip north.

Jamie McGuire thought he had given Fleetwood the lead on 5 minutes but his header was deemed off-side. At the other end a flicked header from David Artell was well saved by Scott Davies.

Danny East picked up a harsh looking yellow card for a challenge on Junior Brown before Jon Parkin soon followed East into the referee's notebook for a foul on Kelvin Langmead.

Parkin was presented with a good opportunity to open the scoring on 21 minutes but the big striker skied his effort from close range.

The Cobblers were reduced to ten men on 24 minutes, East shown a second yellow card following a challenge for a header with Jamie McGuire.

With the game being played at a good tempo, Andrew Mangan saw a shot saved by Lee Nicholls. The home side then made a change with Steven Gillespie replacing Parkin.

Fleetwood again had a goal disallowed on 39 minutes, Junior Brown's header chalked off for off-side. Lee Fowler meanwhile saw a shot from distance saved by Lee Nicholls.

Aidy Boothroyd made a change at half-time with Lewis Wilson on for Louis Moult.

Junior Brown spurned another good chance for the home side five minutes into the second half, blazing his shot wide after racing through clear on goal.

The pacy Chris Hackett played in Alex Nicholls on the counter-attack, Nicholls shot was saved at the second attempt by Davies.

Nicholls flashed a shot just wide while Fleetwood had a goal disallowed for the third time, Junior Brown's effort again ruled out after the ball had gone out of play.

The home side were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area on 84 minutes but after the ball was touched to Andrew Mangan his deflected effort was gathered comfortably by Lee Nicholls.

Two minutes into stoppage time Fleetwood took the lead, Andrew Mangan heading in from close range following a deflected cross.

The goal was harsh on the Cobblers who had defended resolutely with ten men for more than an hour but was enough to seal all three points for Fleetwood in what was the first ever league meeting between the two sides.
